Since moving to Hawaii, I have come to see life as a dazzling kaleidoscope of unfolding possibilities... I also started to learn about what is called ‘aloha’, the traditional Hawaiian attitude towards life.

The seven main points are:

1. IKE: The World Is What You Think It Is
2. KALA: There Are No Limits
3. MAKIA: Energy Flows Where Attention Goes
4. MANAWA: Now Is The Moment Of Power
5. ALOHA: To Love Is To Be Happy With
6. MANA: All Power Comes From Within
7. PONO: Effectiveness Is The Measure Of Truth

How do these work for me and my positron attitude?

Life is about abundance, creativity, nourishing others… Taking responsibility, being present, being grateful. Learning how to respond, not react. Having good boundaries, good friends. Deep love and affection for my husband and children.

So many intricacies, subtle and profound. Being aware. Acknowledging the marriage between magic and mundane, the reflection of each other that shines forth for all to see… Seeing and being seen, a witness and a participant in this grand dance of life. Giving lessons through challenges. Working it out together. Holding a mirror up to oneself, revealing the perfect imperfections. As Bob Marley says, “The truth is an offense but not a sin.”

Am I supposed to feel guilty about being blessed with abundance? Is it a luxury to be able to implement this philosophy? To rise above suffering and not take everything so seriously?

As I look around Maui, there is suffering in paradise even. But despite whether it’s through circumstance or denial, uncreativeness or inability—people have choices. Often between seemingly unfair predicaments that really only call on the divinity within to step up to the plate and do the right thing. For in every situation, there is a best choice that if made with clarity and conviction can show us what we are capable of in the best as well as the worst of circumstances.

Spirit is there always.
