To establish a balance between oneself and the cosmos it's important to look at reality in a holistic way. In this manner you will begin to perceive that all beings are connected by subtle qualities of mind and vitality as well as a physical, biological network of symbiosis. It is one marvelous web, which in India is known as the Web of Indra. True knowledge of this brings humility, a sense of responsibility and ultimate compassion. It is only in this state of awareness that the Book of Life can be read and understood.

Nature is an open book and all things therein possess some form of "medicine power".

This power is meant to be shared and plants in particular stand ready to support us if we fall out of balance. There is something known as the Doctrine of Signatures which is a key to revealing what properties each plant carry in this regard. It refers to the concept of "like cures like". This can manifest itself in the outer appearance of a plant, as well as the effect it has on the system, both physical and emotional.

Homeopathy is founded upon this premise. With this in mind as we look at, observe and commune with the plants we can see qualities that correspond to the organs, tissue or constitution they are particularly suited to heal or harmonize. But more than the outward characteristics it is important to develop a sensitivity to "hearing" the plant. This is something anyone can do. It requires a willingness to shed rational thinking for a moment, the kind of thinking that has been rigorously embedded into us from an early age. One must for a time abandon the tyranny of the conscious mind and open to something much larger..."to think like a mountain".

It is an undertaking that is well worth the time it takes to develop. In this way your ears will become accustomed to a subtle language. Thats when things start to get really interesting.
