We don't need prophecies to know that the end of the world is coming.Or, to be more precise, the end of the world as we know it. In the planet’s four billion year history of life, there have been five mass extinctions. Humans are working hard to hasten the sixth. This planet is experiencing a biodiversity crisis of epic proportions. The climate is changing and sea levels are on the rise. As many as 150 species go extinct every day. At this rate, more than 50% of all species will be gone within the next hundred years.
The seas are being depleted, the corals are dying, the rainforests are being devoured. Frogs are mutating and the bees are simply disappearing. The litany could go on and on. But even more worrisome is how changes taking place now are setting the stage for even more dramatic climate changes down the line (e.g., loss of phytoplankton, melting permafrost, accelerated glacier movement). And all the while, population growth continues unabated. We are a predator species, devouring the Earth's resources. Something has to change.Saving the world is not theoretical, nor is it up for debate. It is a matter of basic survival. Turtle Clan is committed to educating people around the facts and radical action before it is too late. |
